Requirements
PHASE I
/ INVOLVEMENT

Attend 50 percent of the chapter’s membership meetings conducted
while attaining 1st Degree.

Participate in a Individual Development project. PERSONAL GROWTH. Individual development projects provide you with learning experiences and challenges to stretch outside of your comfort zone. Examples of ID projects are public speaking, stress reduction, resume writing, and proposal writing.

Attend an orientation of chapter, state, and national structure and
programs. JAYCEE CONCEPT. Orientation sessions are an excellent opportunity to become more familiar with the Jaycee organization, its structure, its history, and the opportunities that exist for members. Check the calendar for scheduling. If you are unable to attend a scheduled orientation, ask the Membership VP to schedule an additional orientation session.

Be able to recite the Jaycee Creed. JAYCEE CONCEPT. The creed contains a portion of the philosphies that embody the Jaycee organization. To complete this requirement, recite the Jaycee Creed with a current board member as a witness.

Work on a chapter project. PROJECT PARTICIPATION. This is participation in any chapter project. While participating in various Jaycee projects, you gain various skills and information. You can observe other members' leadership styles, participate in project planning or execution, and in some projects you can have minor leadership roles.

Attend a chapter Chairman’s Planning Guide preparation training
session, or have a chapter member explain the CPG process. PROJECT PLANNING. The Chairperson's Planning Guide is provided by the Junior Chamber for project planning. The CPG process is an excellent tool that can provide a framework for planning a project in Jaycees or elsewhere. CPG training session are held periodically. If none are scheduled in the near future, ask the Management VP or other board member to go through the CPG process with you one-on-one.

Bring a prospective member to a chapter activity. SALES TRAINING. Inviting prospects to chapter activities and recruiting new members provides you with a valuable sales experience. Ideally, you can ask coworkers, friends, relatives, and others who are Jaycee-age. If you cannot find anyone, be sure to ask the Membership VP to supply you with a "warm" prospect to call- these are individuals who have called or emailed the chapter expressing interest in the organization.

Lead the Junior Chamber chapter in reciting the Jaycee Creed, Pledge
of Allegiance, or Invocation. PUBLIC SPEAKING. There are various opportunities in Jaycees to practice public speaking, both. For many people, even the most minor public speaking role can be intimidating. But, this is a critical and important leadership skill.

Be an active committee member on a chapter project. PROJECT PARTICIPATION. This is participation in any chapter project. While participating in various Jaycee projects, you gain various skills and information. You can observe other members' leadership styles, participate in project planning or execution, and in some projects you can have minor leadership roles.

Attend a civic organization, local government, religious, or school
board meeting with another Jaycee and report to the chapter. COMMUNITY AWARENESS/NETWORKING. Attending a meeting of another organization, gov't body, or church allows you to learn more about the community around you. This also gives you experience in business networking, another valuable leadership skill. Two great ways to fulfill this requirement in the Lansing Chapter are 1) attend a Chamber of Commerce mixer or 2) attend a Lansing City Council meeting. Work with the Membership VP to coordinate a group-visit.

- Attend
a chapter orientation or training session.
DIRECT TRAINING. There are a variety of training programs that are provided by Jaycee chapters. CPG training is the most common, but there are many others. Ask the Management VP or Individual Development VP about what programs are upcoming.
- Chair
or co-chair a chapter project and complete the CPG process.
LEADERSHIP. Through chairing a project, you get direct and in-depth experience with coordinating the efforts of others, project budgeting, project planning and more. To chair a project, you can 1) ask a board member if there are upcoming projects that need a chair, 2) if you have an idea for a new project, write up a CPG and propose your idea to the board of directors.

7th through 10th Degrees, the two requirements for each listed below
are mandatory. In addition, five of the optional requirements should
be completed. Three chapter activities may be substituted for three
optional activities. Optional requirements may not be repeated for the
completion of one degree.
